THE BLUE MOON LITERARY AND ART REVIEW

Scott Evans, editor of Blue Moon Literary and Art Review just notified me that the new issue is out. I have a story in it, so everybody buy copies, okay? Just keep in mind that Christmas is right around the corner and they'll make great gifts. I'd buy 10 or 20 copies... Seriously, you can order copies from their website at www.bluemoonlitartreview.com

Sad day at our house. My wife Mary and I just took our dog Buddy to the vet to be put down. He's been part of our family for the past 14 years and started out to be our son Mike's dog, but turned into both his and Mary's dog. I yelled at him a lot, so we had our own special bond. He was really a great dog. Mike won a state photography contest with a picture of Buddy reading a book. (All of our animals are required to read books in our house and submit a book report when done)

Our son Mike won the PTA State Championship in the Reflections photography contest when he was in the sixth grade with this photo of his dog Buddy. Check out the title. Mike got the idea himself and set up the shot. He went to Border's Bookstore and got Harry Potter glasses for him to wear. My wife Mary saved the day as we couldn't get Buddy to sit still long enough for Mike to take the shot, when she got the idea to put peanut butter on the rug in front of him. Buddy gave a lick and then lifted his head to try to get the peanut butter off of his tongue and that's when Mike got the shot. He was the first state winner at his elementary school.

We miss Buddy!

Really sorry about the dog. I think I still have that picture of my cat reading Finding Your Voice. Maybe she got the memo.

I am so sorry about your dog. We have a 13yr old, amongst our pack of 4. I know he has not many years to go, he still runs like he did as a pup though.
I shout a lot at ours, but they get under your skin.

Happy Scribbling.

Thanks, Tiffany and Glynis. My wife was really devastated but she's handling it. I guess I shed a tear or two, also...

Ah, I'm sorry! The worst is their not being around any more. I still "see" my cat under tables and on the sofa sometimes, and she's been gone for years.

My kids read stories to our dog. She loves it.

Sex Scenes... your KIDS read to your dog? What a novel idea! We always had Buddy read to us... I have a cat also... well, some people say it's a cat, but it isn't as I swore never to have a cat, so he's a dog that just looks like a cat to the uninformed. His name is Jake and he loves to read us Lee Child novels...

I'm so sorry about your dog, Les! Animals really do become part of the family. You should post the picture of him reading the book - that would be cool. :-)

I absolutely LOVE that picture! Thanks for sharing it, Les. I can see why it was an award winner. :-)

Thanks, Shannon. That was a fun project and I was so proud of Mike for coming up with the idea and doing everything himself... except for the peanut butter idea!

Oh, I feel so sorry that your companion died. I had two Boykin Spaniels who were wonderful. They got me through the grief after my husband died. They followed me wherever I went. They loved to sing in unison and would go get their leashes when they wanted to go for a walk. Mr. Fudge and Miss Honey died within months of each other. They were 15 years old and I still miss them and it is a grief that lingers even after a year. Pets are so wonderful and sometimes I think about getting another dog, but not yet.

Thanks, KFW. BTW, I love your chicken! Oops... just realized yours are different initials...

Spaniels are wonderful dogs. When I was a kid, we had a springer, named Penny as she was the color of a copper cent.

I asked Mary if she wanted to get another dog and she said no; you can't replace a dog or a person. I'd thought she was getting over Buddy's loss, but today she broke down and cried again. Said all week she'd been telling folks at work she was okay, that she knew it was time and best for him, but she said it all came back on Sunday. He was her buddy when she did yard work or whatever. For years, my son Mike and I were always out of town for baseball tournaments and she said Buddy was there as her friend when we were gone and Sundays just brings it all back. Thanks for your words--we appreciate them.
