NEW COVERS! YOUR INPUT IS WELCOMED!
Hi folks,
Here is the final cover for THE RAPIST. You gave the editors of Bare Knuckles Press--Cort McMeel and Eddie Vega--great suggestions for it and they listened! We've made note of those who contributed the ideas used and you'll receive a free copy when it's published (Fall, 2011).
Now they're working on the final cover for THE BITCH. We'd like to ask for your input once more on it. There are five possibilities and the end result may be one of those or one combining elements from the others. Please let us know your thoughts and Eddie and Cort are very interested in what you think and will take your suggestions seriously.
First, here's the final cover for THE RAPIST.
And here are the five possibilities for THE BITCH (In order, A - E)
The scene depicted is a pivotal scene, where the protagonist Jake and his ex-cellmate, Spitball, are on their way in the woods to bury a pair of victims.
There is already one change not seen here. The shovel in each of these looked more like a snow shovel than a digging shovel and that's been corrected for future mockups.
Please send us your votes on which you like the best or combinations you might like. For instance, you might like the art in one, but the lettering in another.
Thank you so very much!
And, for those who haven't glommed onto a copy of my two novels that just came out from StoneGate Ink, here are handy links. For those who live outside the U.S. just go to the Amazon or B&N service for your country and type my name into the Kindle or Nook search boxes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support! Also, you might want to check out my short story and the other noir stories in the just-released NOIR NATION (link provided). They have gathered the top noir writers in the world for this and it's a great honor to be included.
Blue skies,
Les

I like the first and last one. Both very different, but if I was made to choose, I'd go with the first one (A).
Looks good though Les, very good.
Luca.
Luca, thank you so much! Their design firm, Butterflies and Hurricanes in Prague really knows their stuff, don't they!
I also liked (A) and (E). I'd go with (E) if I had to choose.
I like the second one.
Um, only the last one makes visual sense to me. The hunched over guy in the first set? I can't parse what he's doing and it's distracting and---
squirrel!
You know? Too hard to figure out what's going on = next book, please.
Court, Ray and Oddmaster--thank you folks so much! This is really helping.
Oddmonster, please accept my apologies for misspelling your name/handle! My bad. I see you live in Vermont. I did my MFA there (in Montpelier) and loved the state!
I like the cover pics in the last two best...they make me ask questions about the story. The red lettering has it over the blue for me. (Then again, red is my fave color...) But I'd pick that book up and at least read the back if I saw if laying around.
the last one (E) immediately got my attention, much more catchy than the others. the second to last cover (D) has more of a sense of intrigue or mystery. I haven't read the book so I don't know if that's what you're going for... but I do agree with a previous commenter that the hunched over guy in cover D is kinda ambiguous looking, like I wasn't sure what it was at first. Cover E just seems to be edgier, more brutal, like this is going to be a hell of story.
I would go with the last one (E).
Thanks Birgitte, Erin, Maegan and Chad! All GREAT feedback! I really appreciate it.
sorry Les,
I'm a complete spaz today... and apparently I can't count. I meant to say #4. The one where they're carrying what I presumed to be a body, while dragging a shovel, into the trees. They're all good but for me, this was the one that grabbed me. Without even reading your blurb about it depicting a pivotal scene in the novel, I knew what these two were doing and I knew it was important.
maegan
I'm the same as Luca
Thanks Maegan and Paul--appreciate your input!
The Rapist cover is great.
Of the Bitch covers I liked D. The tree leads the eye to the title and the two goons with the shovels. Shrink them to thumbnail size and see if it holds up, remember online it'll be a postage stamp in the Amazon search results. In that case E might be the better choice.
I vote for the last one with blue rather than red lettering. Keeps the icy feel of the scene. Including the building makes for more of a visual story.

Thomas and Carl--thank you for great insights! I can' tell everyone how much I appreciate all your suggestions!
